ICSS 2010 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABILITY SCIENCE

SAPIENZA UNIVERSITY OF ROME JUNE 23rd-25th 2010

The second edition of the International Conference on Sustainability
Science will be held in Rome on June 23rd, 24th, 25th at Sapienza
University of Rome, with the support of Institute for Sustainability
and Peace (UNU ISP) of the United Nations University,
Interuniversity Research Centre on Sustainable Development (CIRPS)
Sapienza University of Rome, Integrated Research System for
Sustainability Science (IR3S) of University of Tokyo, School of
Sustainability of the Arizona State University.

After the Tokyo successful edition in February 2009, thanks to the
remarkable commitment of all the partners involved, in 2010 the
Conference sets the double goal to strengthen the role of
"Sustainability Science" in the academic community and, at the
same time, to get industry representatives, civil society, top managers
of important companies, the decision makers of public institutions to
meet the ones who are in charge of the most authoritative scientific
research centres on sustainability. Final goal of the conference is to
spread sustainability science through sharing practical and scientific
knowledge beyond academic borders.

The research areas identified by the scientific committee bring all the
members of Sustainability Science's network to consider carefully the
following issues: complex human-environment relations, environment
conservation, life quality, opportunities of the new generations, global
and local sustainability governance, economic progress and innovation,
development equity and sustainability, development and sustainability
indicators, corporate social responsibility, use of resources and their
consumption.

ICSS2010 is a turning point for the consolidation of Sustainability
Science. Besides the plenary and thematic sessions featured by
scientific content, two Panels will put great emphasis on companies and
civil society, with the aim to share practical and scientific knowledge
with the development and other communities and work jointly on
practical solutions to the problems of sustainability.
