Conferences, seminars, open laboratories and even a concert of the Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. It is the ON/OFF event, which, promoted by ENEA, will be held at Frascati from June 30th to July 2nd 2008 with the aim of discussing energy and the environment.
One of its targets is to bring the general public to think over the global issues of climate change and safety, highlighting the themes of research, energy, environment as well as their economic and social repercussion. Actually, one of the scheduled initiatives will allow people to visit the ENEA laboratories at Frascati where advanced nuclear fusion testing is being carried on. But there will also be the opportunity to attend conferences.
At Monteporzio Catone on July 1st experts and members of the academic world, such as the economist Jean Paul Fitoussi, will engage in a debate on “Finance, technology and new trends of investment in energy”. On the same day Chicco Testa, Gianni Mattioli, Gian Battista Zorzoli and Ezio Bussoletti will tackle the issue of nuclear power. On the following day, Wednesday July 2nd, Umberto Quadrino, Managing Director of Edison, will attend a conference on “Energy policies in a global world, from Kyoto to Bonn”.
Other issues brought to the general public’s attention will be the increase in energy prices and the relationship between food-stock and bio-fuels. Finally, there will be the opportunity to visit an eco-gym, made out of recycled materials, and there, besides the advice for a correct work-out, people will be given instructions on eco-behaviour, such as differentiated garbage collection.
