Ethanol and diesel oil in one single engine

A new 9-3 TDI E85 Saab is being unveiled in Sweden

BSR, a leading Swedish company in car tuning, has developed a conversion kit which enables diesel engine to work on the most widespread biofuel in the Stockholm area. Important changes have been made by the Scandinavian engineers as bio-ethanol has energy features different from soy-bean bio-diesel: a 9-3 TDI Saab has been chosen for this experiment and it will be exhibited at the Malmo Motor Show.

According to the information supplied by BSR, thanks to the combination of the two technologies, fuel consumption and waste emissions are lowered if compared to a standard version. Well, the engine burns 5 litres to run 100 km, which means to slash 95% of CO2, nitrogen oxides and particle matter. As far as performance is concerned, instead, the 9-3 TDI Saab delivers a 195 maximum h power with a 410 Nm torque. That, of course, is possible thanks to the tweaks in the combustion chamber as well as in the injection and engine management software systems.
