Automation for Urban Transport

International seminar and demonstrations

The above mentioned seminar aims to present the results of two key European Projects for the advancement of innovative solutions for urban transport: CityMobil and CyberCars-2.

The solutions tested within these projects are based on the use of advanced sensors, communication and automation to develop new products such as Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), Cybernetic Transport Systems (CTS), Advanced Bus Rapid Transit (ABRT), and Advanced City Cars (ACC).

All these new products are now close to the market and are being tested and evaluated in the CityMobil Project. They have the potential to deliver new sustainable transport solutions to complement or to replace conventional public transport systems and to provide an efficient and convenient alternative to the use of the private car.

The participants of these 2 projects will be available during this seminar to explain the status of these new products and how they are being tested and evaluated.

The seminar is intended for all those who are concerned with transportation in cities: city officials and their services, transport operators, suppliers, urban planners, consumers associations, citizens, researchers, the press, etc.

In parallel to the seminar, the city of La Rochelle will host a public demonstration of electric vehicles and Cybercars for car-sharing at the Place de Verdun, near the seminar venue, between 18th and 28th September 2008.

On the Italian side, Alessandro Alessandrini, CSST-Sapienza University of Rome, will introduce the theme of "Benefits of advanced systems" and Gianfranco Burzio, Fiat Research Centre- will present the "Advanced City Cars" project.
